Two ways in: upload files, or connect a Postgres database. Either way BITIC only ever reads — your originals are never changed.
Excel & CSV files
Open your project and drag files onto the Connect your data card (or click Choose files — you can select several at once, or a whole folder).
Each file becomes a table. Multi-sheet Excel workbooks become one table per sheet.
Watch the per-file status — you'll see row counts as each file is read.
Re-uploading a file with the same name adds a new version — nothing is overwritten, and BITIC tells you if columns changed.
Good to know
Files exported from Windows Excel (special characters like ü, é) work — BITIC detects the encoding.
Prices stored as text like "$12.99" are cleaned to numbers automatically.
Keys linking tables (ProductKey, CustomerID…) are detected so prices and names can come from related tables.
Max 50 MB per file, .csv and .xlsx formats.
Postgres database
In your project, open Database connection → Connect a Postgres database.
Click Generate read-only SQL and send it to whoever manages your database — it creates a user that can only read.
Enter host, database, username and password → Test & save. Your password is encrypted and never shown again.
Click Sync now to copy your tables into BITIC. Re-sync any time to refresh.
The SQL that button prints — grants are SELECT only.
-- Run this in your database as an admin. It creates a read-only user
-- for BITIC. Replace <choose-a-password> before running.
CREATE ROLE bitic_readonly LOGIN PASSWORD '<choose-a-password>';
GRANT CONNECT ON DATABASE <your-database> TO bitic_readonly;
GRANT USAGE ON SCHEMA public TO bitic_readonly;
GRANT SELECT ON ALL TABLES IN SCHEMA public TO bitic_readonly;
ALTER DEFAULT PRIVILEGES IN SCHEMA public GRANT SELECT ON TABLES TO bitic_readonly;
Good to know
The connection is forced read-only at the session level — BITIC cannot write to your database even by mistake.
Scheduled automatic syncs arrive with the hosted release; until then, use Sync now.
What happens next
After your data is in, click Start setup: BITIC asks a few plain-language questions (which sales count, which price applies), shows you sample values to confirm, sanity-checks a number you know, and generates your dashboard. About 10 minutes.
